A group of IBEW Local 38 members and their families felt a sense of joy and goodwill as they volunteered their time on a recent Saturday morning to decorate downtown Cleveland’s Public Square for the upcoming Christmas season. On Oct. 19, members of Local 38 used their electrical skills to transform Cleveland’s Public Square into a dazzling winter wonderland of holiday lights.

Held May 31 and June 1, Max Meese took first place in the district competition, earning the right to compete this fall in the Ironworkers national apprentice competition. Iron Workers Local 55 (Toledo) Apprentice Mark Vajen placed second and will also compete in the national competition.

On March 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council will host a career fair at the Pipefitters Local 120 Union Hall, located at 6305 Halle Drive in Cleveland. Women, Cleveland residents and people of color are encouraged to attend.
Cleveland Tradeswomen celebrated Women in Construction Week with a dinner on March 8 at the Plumbers Local 55 Union Hall. More than 75 tradeswomen, including a few from states outside of Ohio, attended the second annual event.

From April 18 to 22, the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 94 Training Center in Canton welcomed 33 apprentices from across the state to demonstrate their training as either a pipefitter, plumber, sprinkler fitter, welder or HVAC service technician.
Affiliated members of the Cleveland Building Trades were on-hand April 18 for a groundbreaking ceremony to construct an all-union Habitat for Humanity house in Cleveland, funded in part by a donation from the Cleveland Building Trades Foundation. The $25,000 donation by the CBTF marks a significant investment in not only the project, but also the Greater Buckeye neighborhood, where the house will be built.

On Dec. 18, Joyce was honored by the Irish Echo newspaper during the 10th annual Irish Labor Awards. For the past decade, the New York-based newspaper has recognized the contributions of men and women of Irish heritage who have made a major contribution to the labor movement.
