Progressive Field Renovation
Work to update Progressive Field will be performed following the 2023 and 2024 baseball seasons at an estimated cost of $202.5 million with $67.5 million coming from the Guardians. The Club is also responsible to cover any cost overages that may result from the projects. Renovation work on the ballpark will be performed under both a Project Labor Agreement and a Community Benefits Agreement by affiliated members of the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council. The new right field upper deck and the Dugout Club are both expected to be finished before the start of the 2025 season.
Cleveland Clinic-Main Campus Projects
The Cleveland Clinic announced major construction projects in May, 2022 set to take place on its main campus, with all work covered by Project Labor Agreements [PLA]. On its main campus, affiliated members of the Cleveland Building Trades will construct a 1 million-square-foot Neurological Institute building, expand the Cole Eye Institute building and significantly expand research facilities through its commitment to the Cleveland Innovation District, creating more than 2,500 construction jobs for affiliated tradesmen and tradeswomen. The other major project on campus involves $177M investment in the Cole Eye Center, building the new 150,000-square-foot Jeffrey and Patricia Cole Building and renovate the existing 130,000-square-foot Cole Eye Institute building, originally constructed in 1999. Completion is targeted for the end of 2025.
The Centennial Building Project
A long-awaited project in downtown Cleveland will begin soon thanks to a major tax credit award from the State of Ohio, creating more work for area union trades. Thanks to a $40 million tax credit from the State of Ohio, the Millennia Companies plan to rehabilitate the Centennial Building. The work will create 500-600 jobs for union construction workers. Millennia has secured more than $476 million in private, federal, state, and local financing commitments.
Sherwin-Williams Global Research and HQ
Sherwin-Williams is building its new downtown headquarters and suburban research and development facility under a Project Labor Agreement. Each project is expected to create about 1,800 jobs for affiliated members of the Cleveland Building Trades.
The $250M Global Research and Development Center in Brecksville will serve as the corporate anchor for a new mixed-use development project. About 900 employees will work out of this complex. The new Global headquarters just west of Public Square will be approximately 1 million square feet. Once complete, the $300M, 36-story headquarters tower will be one of the tallest buildings in downtown Cleveland. An estimated 3,100 employees will work out of the downtown location.Work on both facilities is expected to wrap up by the end of 2024.
Cleveland Innovation District Project
A partnership between the City of Cleveland, Cleveland Clinic, Meijer, Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation and Fairmount Properties will create 300 jobs for affiliated members of the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council. The grocery store and apartment complex in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood, on the corner of East 105th Street and Cedar Avenue, Fairfax Market is part of the overall $500 million Cleveland Innovation District project. The $52.8 million mixed-use project to build a 40,000-square-foot Meijer grocery store and create 196 apartment units will help address a lack of accessible food supply in this area. The store will create about 50 jobs that pay competitive wages and offer access to health benefits, as well as a company-matching 401(k) program.
