Tonight – Join the Tradeswomen Committee for Career Night

Following a successful first event and recent publicity by the local media, the Tradeswomen Committee’s Career Night is expected to draw an even larger crowd than originally expected.

There is still time to attend the event, which occurs tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 6 -7:30 pm.

Career Night is designed specifically to promote opportunities for women within the construction trades.

Those attending the event at the Plumbers Local 55 Union Hall in Brooklyn Heights will have a chance to meet representatives from the following unions:

  • Carpenters Local 435
  • Carpenters Local 373
  • Cement Masons Local 404
  • Ironworkers Local 17
  • Painters and Allied Trades District 6
  • Pipefitters Local 120
  • Plumbers Local 55
  • Roofers and Waterproofers Local 44
  • Sheet Metal Workers Local 33
  • IBEW (Electricians) Local 38

Women interested in learning about a career in the trades are urged to attend this event. Union representatives will provide information about the application and apprenticeship process, in addition to answering any question attendees may have about working in the trades.

“A lot of women don’t think of this,” Doreen Cannon, chairwoman of the committee and president of Plumbers Local 55, told “They can’t even picture themselves doing this. But when they can come to an event like this, and actually meet these tradeswomen — who have been doing this for 15, 20 or more years — they will be able to kind of picture themselves through them.”

This is a wonderful chance to help educate and recruit future building trade members. Current Brothers and Sisters still have time to get the word out on this event and invite any women who they think may be interested to attend Career Night.
