10 Ohio regional Building and Construction Trades Councils, others, earn 40 Zero Injury Safety Awards

More than two-thirds of Ohio’s Building and Construction Trades Councils and one District Council were recognized during the 24th Annual Zero Injury Safety Awards (ZISA) ceremony.

The nation’s building trades and members of the union construction industry gathered at Dar Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 17, 2024 to honor the trades, contractors and project owners who achieved zero injuries on their industrial construction and maintenance projects during the previous calendar year.

The ZISA is open to all contractors, industrial business owners, clients and building trades councils on projects performed under National Maintenance Agreements or National Power Generation Maintenance Agreement programs.

ZISA is recognized nationwide as the union construction and maintenance’s premier award for industrial safety.

There are multiple levels for awards including Gold Star (1 million or more hours safely worked), Silver (500,000-999,999 hours safely worked), Bronze (200,000-499,999 hours safely worked) and Certificate of Merit (50,000-199,999 hours safely worked).

In total, the 10 Ohio building trades council, DC 53 and the Ohio State Building Trades earned 40 awards.

The Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council was recognized twice with two Certificates of Merit.

The first was for 118,295 work hours at Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc., Cleveland Works plan. The other was for 102,955 work hours at the Charter Steel plant in Cuyahoga Heights.
